Team Durant needs no introduction. Led by BCL POY Amani Hansberry, they will look to use their depth to wear down the Disciples. FBCG, which is no slouch, will be sure to push the pace and show they are more than worthy adversaries in this mid day matchup.
Nova Cavs 17u vs DMV Stags 17u - Saturday 4:45 @ The St. James
The Nova Cavs are well coached and have many future college players. They often sport teams that share the ball and play at a pace that is similar to the Golden State Warriors. The Stags are led by Aidan Harris and will look to use their athleticism and size to overpower the Cavs. Look for this matchup to come down to the very end.

The St. James is where you would want to be this Saturday afternoon if you want to see elite basketball play. There will be a good number of teams battling to see who is at the top of their game. We also have some big name teams and teams that are starting to make a name for themselves. District All Star is one of those teams that has slowly but surely made a name for themselves, that will be a team to look out for. Not to mention we have some EYBL and UAA teams. Fan and spectators get ready to watch the future of basketball.
Lets get right into it…
Pro Skills Elite 17u vs District All Stars 17u - Saturday 1:00 pm @ The St. James
We R 1 recently had a former event standout, Bones Hyland, get drafted and is having an exceptional rookie year. Team Durant recently had a former player, Dariq Whitehead win MDAAG MVP. This alone lets you know what type of matchup to expect Saturday afternoon. Both programs will look to roll out talented lineups with Top 100 talent all across the board and will surely put on a show for the crowd in this preseason thriller.
Team Durant EYBL 17u vs FBCG Disciple 17u - Saturday 2:15 pm @ The St. James
Chuck Henry’s group will be ready to go for this one. TTO National will have one of the stronger summer coaching staffs and coach Henry’s guys will execute, defend, and play together. They will need to be on their ‘A’ game vs a Prospect U program that has picked up steam locally as a program to be reckoned with. Coached by DMV legend Doug Dormu, this matchup will be very competitive with talented kids who will surely see their stock rise this spring/summer.
Team Durant EYBL 16u vs Philly Pride UAA 16u - Saturday 2:15 pm @ The St. James
Hearing a lot of good things about both programs. DBC has some talented pieces from the Cecil Kirk backyard. This Baltimore/DC battle could go down to the wire. The key will be which team has the ability to gel early in the spring. College coaches should tune in to fine the next potential diamond in the rough.
TTO National HGSL 16u vs Nova Cavs 16u- Saturday 2:15 pm @ The St. James
Last spring/summer was the first year for Coach Greg’s group. When I hosted them for a few events last year I was impressed with how they competed against several shoe teams. They may not have won every matchup but they left a lasting impression on me. I will personally be tuned in to see them face another upstart program, Pro Skills Gold.
Nova Cavs 17u vs DMV Stags 17u - Saturday 4:45 pm @ The St. James
DBC routinely knocks off shoe company, last year defeating Boo Williams at the buzzer. We R 1 routinely wins championships and dominates opponents. Something has to give. Heavyweight X&O’s in this one with Devin Williams leading the charge for DBC and Terrell Myers for We R 1.

The St. James- DMV Spring Warm Up Preview (Sunday Afternoon)
With that being said, lets jump into a preview of some of the programs and matchups from Friday night and Saturday morning.
Fairfax Stars 17u vs Inspire Elite Adidas Gold 17u - Friday 9pm @ the St. James
Brendan Howell and his group kickoff their summer against the historic Fairfax Stars in our Friday nightcap. Both programs are known for developing student athletes and preparing them for all levels of collegiate basketball. Look for both teams to look more seasoned than what you would expect from a team this time of the year.
District Basketball Club 15u vs Cecil Kirk Rudy 15u - Friday 6pm @ the St. James
The District Basketball Club will play a “home game” against a Cecil Kirk Rudy in what could be one of the more entertaining games of the night. Both programs are high level independent competitors that have a history of developing talent and finding the diamond in the rough. It will be interesting who emerges on the big stage opening night.
DMV Stags 17u vs Fairfax Stars 17u - Saturday 9:30 am @ Alexandria City HS
If there is one thing that I have learned from watching the DMV Stags over the years is that they will always have some guys you need to know before anyone knows them. This year’s bunch kickoff their spring against the Fairfax Stars. The Stags will look to tune up before going live on the Prep Hoops Circuit.
Pro Skills Elite 17u vs Team Takeover National 17u - Saturday 11:00 am @ Alexandria City HS
In a preseason matchup between teams who look to make strong runs this summer, Chuck Henry’s TTO National team will take on Pat O’Connor’s Pro Skills Elite bunch. I would expect to see two teams that execute at a high level and compete for 32 minutes like its the National Championship. Like any preseason action expect teams to be rusty but this one could turn into one of the best games of the weekend after its all said and done.
We R 1 UAA 15u vs District Basketball Club 15u - Saturday 11:00 am @ Alexandria City HS
We R 1’s 2026 bunch kick off against the District Basketball Club. The Delaware program is well known for grooming and producing elite guards. Years ago I watched Denver Nuggets guard Bones Hyland man the ship for We R 1’s 15u team before going on to become the rising NBA star that he is now. Look for this game to be played at a frenetic pace with some names you will see a lot in the future.
Other Friday Night/Saturday Morning matchups of note:

Allentown Pressure vs DMV Stags Elite
Nova Cavs vs Showtime Elite

High School Update 2/8-2/12
McNamara vs St John’s
Pen by @TheRealBdotInge
Flics by @20three47
In my first viewing of Bishop McNamara this year, I left impressed with not only the talent of the Mustang guards but the overall level of detail and urgency the team played with. Long story short…. The Mustangs are for real. When speaking with coach Jay Gavin, he mentioned that “The kids are excited to compete every night. If we do that we will be able to control our destiny”. The WCAC is wide open and with any team looking to win a championship, Luck will be key but the Mustangs have a shot to cut down the nets at American.
St Johns is no slouch either, sporting a bevy of high major caliber players led by Senior guard Christian Watson. The Cadets struggled with containing Favour Aire and have taken some close losses this season but should not be counted out. When speaking to assistant coach Jamal Hulum, he noted that defending the basket and making winning plays consistentIy and getting stops. Tuesday evening, the cadets were able to get stops in the third quarter when they made a run to take the lead. I would not be surprised to see the Cadets in the championship game at American either if they stick to their script. Below are some notes on key performers
St Johns
Malik Mack #2
Scoring point, quick, shoots it from deep. On a team full of talented guards led by Miami signee Christian Watson, Mack may have been the best guard on the floor. His name is one that many are talking about. Definitely a player to track during the recruiting season.
Donnie Freeman #0
Much has already been said about the 2024 talent. Standing what looks to be 6’8 maybe 6’9 with a body that is starting to fill out. He held his own against Favour and showed some of the versatility that makes him such a coveted prospect early on.
Shane Lancaster #1
The Niagara signee is the glue guy for the Cadets. A strong defender and is a good shooter when his feet are set. Shane plays within himself and clearly values winning. St. John’s will need Shane to provide more of that formula if they hope to win it all.
Christian Watson
The Miami commit scored from all 3 levels but was never able to find a consistent rhythm, especially with fellow Miami Signee Favour Aire protecting the rim. St Johns has the talent required to be mentioned as a potential WCAC/DCSAA title but if they are to win it all it will be because Christian is playing at a high level.
McNamara
Favour Aire
Dominant on both sides of the ball. If McNamara is to win it all it will be because Favour controls the game. Should be on the short list for any POY award if the mustangs win out.
Jeremiah Quigley #3
Gets wherever he wants on the court. Have heard a lot about him and was impressed by his overall floor game in my first live viewing of him. Dynamic with the ball in his hands, as good as advertised.
Finishes well with either hand and is shifty off the dribble. Reminds some of former McNamara guard Ibn Muhammad but with more scoring ability. I would expect Jeremiah to blow up this summer.
Jeran Curtis
Make plays, winning plays. Offensive rebounds as a guard and is everywhere. The freshmen plays well beyond his years and blends in perfectly with the upperclassmen guards. With McNamara bringing back their two stud guards next year but no Favour, look for Jeran to make a HUGE jump forward next season. But this season, teams should account for him because the Mustangs don’t win without his timely hustle and heady plays last night.
Jaden Johnson
Offensive rebounds as a guard and is ever Strong, heady, tough finisher around the rim. High IQ. Best defender and guards 1-4. Jaden is the heartbeat of the Mustangs. He possesses most of the attributes you’d like to see in a lead guard. Big game player.
Gwynn Park HS vs Potomac HS
Ryan Archey
Ryan was one of of the breakout players locally after numerous performances where his talent could not be denied. Covid again has hindered his recruitment but the mid range assassin has continued to improve in the dark and looks to lead a talented Gwynn Park team to a state total run. Look for D1 and high D2 schools to get involved late.
Ty Bevins
Super Soph Ty Bevins continues his steady progress. Standing at a legit 6’4-6’5 with impressive basketball instincts, the sophomore guard impressed me with his athleticism (3 in game dunks) and a number of plays that lead to winning. With the improved athleticism, the basketball IQ has started to shine through. Ty had several high level reads and assists. D1 programs should head over to the Park asap to catch a potential diamond
Mike Brown
Every good team has seniors who play their role and over deliver. Mike Brown is a key example. He may not be well known locally but if you watch Gwynn Park play you will see his significant impact. In 3 viewings this season, Mike has shown to be a knockdown shooter, an above average defender, and a consummate glue guy. Mike has the ability to play at the collegiate level and with a deep run this spring his stock should rise.
